Intellect – Success Story on SAP Integration Suite – SAP CPI
Goodman Fielder is an Australian manufacturer, marketer and distributor of bread, smallgoods, dairy products, margarine, oil, dressings and various food ingredients. Its main operations are in New Zealand, Australia, Fiji, Papua New Guinea, and New Caledonia, with over 40 manufacturing sites. The company employs over 5,000 people and has more than 120 brands.
Goodman Fielder is acquired by two leading food companies – Wilmar International and First Pacific.
Business Case
The process of formalizing agreements between farmers and the Wilmar Group regarding their needs for the fertilizers and other goods for current year has been automated. Previously, this process was done manually by scanning signed documents and uploading them to SAP. However, after integrating DocuSign with SAP using SAP CPI as middleware, the entire process is now fully automated.
The Challenge
DocuSign and SAP are two different systems where we need to use the form data process for loading the PDF documents to DocuSign and Securely have to encrypt and send to SAP after the signing using the CPI as middleware.
The Solution
We used Groovy to generate form data along with field-level information in the PDF document, which is then uploaded to DocuSign using their REST APIs. This included document upload, pushing signed responses from DocuSign to SAP, and sending alerts to the concerned team for signing reminders. Additionally, a transaction rollback approach is implemented in CPI with internal memory to reprocess failed messages.
Implementation
We used three integration flows for both inbound and outbound processes to ensure the entire process is fully automated.
Business Benefits

Since the entire process is automated, especially during peak periods when camps are scheduled, higher-level management can easily track how many documents have been signed by farmers and approved in the system. This allows them to generate reports based on that data without any manual intervention.

DocuSign sends reminders, eliminating the possibility of missing any document. In the case of rejections, the reasons can be easily tracked to understand the cause.

Documents can be easily tracked in both SAP and DocuSign using the contract number.

Manual work has been reduced, resulting in a smaller workforce requirement when scheduling camps for Agrifeeds.
